I don’t think there’s anything worse than waking up to your alarm on a dark, cold winter morning and forcing yourself to do exercise.
I know how difficult it can be to maintain a routine during winter, so here are my five fave ways to stay healthy and active during the winter months:
1. Bring your gym clothes to class or work with you
I realised that when I go home straight from work, I lack motivation to get up and go to the gym and as a result, I often don’t go. I find that if I bring my gym clothes with me to work, I don’t have an excuse to not go. Once you get into the routine of going straight to the gym, you’ll be kicking yourself for not doing it sooner!
2. Make the most of every moment
I always find a way to integrate exercise into my day. Whether its waking up a bit earlier to do a Pilates class or going for a jog in the afternoon, I find that exercising is a great way to start and end the day as it revitalises my mind and nourishes the soul.
3. Practice mindful eating
Eat slowly and mindfully. I like to take the time to actually smell and taste the food. Did you know it takes approximately twenty minutes for your body to tell you if you are full or not? If you practice mindful eating, you’ll realise that you don’t actually need that second plate and that what you had is exactly all you needed.
4. Stay positive
When I’m in a positive mindset, it helps me stay motivated during my winter exercise routines. Winter is an ideal time to lose weight as your metabolism naturally speeds up to help keep you warm. Not only does it set me up for when the warm weather arrives, but it makes me look good and feel AMAZING!
5. Stay hydrated
It can be hard to drink the recommended 8 cups per day, so I replace water with green tea to boost my metabolism and finds it still hydrates my body! Otherwise I like to add fruit to my Fressko water bottle (a great natural detox for the body!)
